Police seized pistols, magazines, different calibre rounds, and drugs from an apartment in Bothasig.

POLICE seized seven pistols, 17 different types of magazines, 1030 different calibre rounds, and drugs with an estimated street value of R10 million at an apartment in Bothasig believed to be used as a storage facility by a local gang.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said officers attached to Crime Intelligence arrested a 29-year-old man at a premises in Sylvia Street, De Zicht, Richwood in Bothasig on Sunday night in connection with the incident

“The members received information that an apartment was used as a storage facility by a local gang. They conducted observation duties at the mentioned apartment and saw the suspect driving a white Mercedes Benz,” Van Wyk said.

“When he was about to leave the complex the members boxed in the vehicle and instructed the suspect to exit the vehicle. The members saw the suspect had a black shopping bag on his lap and upon exiting the vehicle he held the bag overhead. He was searched and an unlicensed 9mm Tauris was found in his possession. He could not give an account for the firearm. The suspect was also found in possession of a key to the apartment.”
