The condition of the 5-year-old boy who was beaten by his father yesterday remains critical, with doctors continuing to fight for his life at Sofia’s Pirogov emergency hospital.
The child was transferred by air ambulance from a hospital in Montana, where he was initially admitted after being brought in by his mother with multiple injuries. Doctors diagnosed him with a severe head injury, chest trauma and broken ribs. He is now in the Children’s Intensive Care Unit at Pirogov, on mechanical ventilation and in a medically induced coma, under continuous monitoring of his vital signs.
The case came to light on Wednesday after the boy was taken to the Montana hospital. Medical staff who examined him were deeply affected by the severity of his injuries, with reports saying the child was almost in a comatose state when he arrived. The hospital immediately coordinated with Pirogov to arrange an emergency air transfer.
This is reportedly the second time the child has been brought to the Montana hospital with suspected injuries from beating. About two months ago, his grandmother took him there after concerns that he had been assaulted. He was examined at the time, but at the grandmother’s request, the child was allowed to return home.
