The Appeals Board of the Ministry of Education has issued new rulings sentencing Majid Karimi and Ghias Nemati, two Kurdistan teachers’ union activists, to mandatory service buyout (“bazkharid-e khedmat”).
The Co-ordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations reported that, upon reconsideration, the permanent dismissal order for Majid Karimi and the permanent termination order for Ghias Nemati were altered to a “service buyout.”
A mandatory service buyout effectively forces the termination of employment between these two teachers and the Ministry of Education, barring them from continuing to teach, receiving a salary, or accessing job-related benefits.
The Appeals Board issued these new rulings without allowing the teachers to present a defense, relying instead on their prior records.
Meanwhile, the sentence for Jahangir Bahmani, another Kurdistan teacher implicated in the same case, was reduced from permanent termination to a six-month suspension from service.
