A turn at a rural crossroads leads onto a bumpy, potholed road winding towards the remote settlements – locally known as lazy – scattered around the village of Hrušov in south-central Slovakia. The destination is an area known as Na Jablonci and a guesthouse tucked away in the hills.
After a handful of traditional peasant cottages, an unexpected sight appears: a beautifully restored old house.
It belongs to Martina Gregušková, who moved to these isolated hills a decade ago, drawn by the potential of agritourism. She later bought the derelict house and renovated it according to her own tastes.
