A wildfire broke out early Tuesday in the Marathias area on the island of Zakynthos, prompting a major mobilization of firefighting forces.
A total of 22 firefighters, including a foot unit team from the 17th Special Forest Operations Unit (EMODE) and volunteers, are operating at the scene. The operation is also supported by eight fire engines, two aircraft and a helicopter, while local authority water tankers are assisting with the firefighting effort.
Additionally, authorities sent an 112 emergency alert to local residents and visitors urging them to remain on alert and follow the instructions of the authorities.
