A wildfire broke out Tuesday afternoon in low vegetation in the Pefka area near Thessaloniki, prompting an emergency alert urging residents to remain on standby.

The Fire Service deployed 56 firefighters, including three ground teams, along with 15 fire engines, volunteers and municipal water tankers to battle the blaze. Two aircraft and a helicopter were also assisting from the air.

Officials said there was no immediate threat to nearby homes. The alert advised residents in the wider area to follow instructions from civil protection authorities.

Firefighting crews continued efforts to contain the fire, while the cause remained under investigation.
