MANILA, Philippines — Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante on Saturday urged the four so-called “maleta boys”—the alleged bagmen of former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co—to come clean, tell the whole truth and identify the persons who prepared the affidavits they had retracted.
The four men were among the 18 former Co bodyguards who signed a joint affidavit last February claiming that they delivered suitcases containing billions of pesos in alleged kickbacks from corruption-tainted flood control projects to President Marcos, former Speaker Martin Romualdez and other officials from 2022 to 2025.
The President and Romualdez have denied the allegations, which the former Speaker’s lawyers described as “false and trumped-up.”
