MANILA, Philippines — Lawyer Levito Baligod, the counsel of 18 “maleta boys” who claimed to be former bodyguards of ex-Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, on Friday emphasized that he did not make money off his clients to create a joint affidavit implicating several government officials in the flood control anomalies.
This came after four of the 18 “maleta boys” signed affidavits of recantation and said in an interview that their previous statements implicating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., former Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, Co and others in the flood control irregularities were “untrue.”

In a chance interview on Friday, Baligod said the 14 “maleta boys” got “angry” after watching the interview of their four colleagues, adding that they will hold a press conference on Saturday to stand by their joint affidavit.
