As the Women's Day long weekend approaches, motorists on the N3 Toll Route are urged to prepare for heavy traffic and severe weather conditions, including snow and cold fronts, making travel potentially hazardous.
Motorists travelling on the N3 Toll Route during the Women's Day long weekend have been warned to prepare for heavy traffic, ongoing roadworks, and deteriorating weather conditions, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasting snow over parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, and Mpumalanga from Sunday.
Traffic volumes on one of South Africa's busiest freight and tourism corridors are expected to increase from midday(fri) as holidaymakers head to destinations in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and the Free State. The busiest return period is expected on Monday afternoon.
The 415km N3 Toll Route links Heidelberg in Gauteng with Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and carries significant volumes of passenger and freight traffic throughout the year.
Motorists should also expect delays at several road construction sites between Heidelberg and Villiers, Warden and Harrismith, and Estcourt and Nottingham Road.
