The leadership crisis rocking the Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has deepened, with more than 80 party aspirants throwing their weight behind the State Working Committee led by Dr. Johnpaul Anih, even as a rival faction insisted that the party's national leadership does not recognise him as the state chairman.

The coalition of over 80 aspirants, operating under the banner of the Enugu G80, announced its endorsement of Anih following an extraordinary virtual meeting held on August 3, where members unanimously resolved to recognise the executive led by him as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the coalition said its decision followed extensive consultations and a review of the circumstances surrounding the leadership dispute.
