A major burst on the B4 Pipeline is affecting water supply to the Palmiet booster pumping station, Rand Water reported on Thursday.
The burst pipe, which occurred at about 06:00 on Thursday, led to a reduction in pumping operations at the Palmiet station to 70% of normal capacity, which may impact water supply to the areas served by the station.
The station supplies water to the cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni, as well as the Madibeng local municipality, Rand Water said in a statement.
“Technical teams are currently on site and the pipeline is being isolated to enable repair work. At this stage, the full extent of the damage is still unknown.”
The estimated time of repair will be communicated once the assessment has been completed and the scope of the required repairs has been determined.
