A burst water pipe scoured the side of an embankment on Vusi Mzimela Road (formerly Bellair Road) in Cato Manor. The Wiggins High Pressure main pipeline broke on Monday causing interruptions to several suburbs.

The eThekwini Municipality technical team from water operations is currently repairing two bursts on a 750mm diameter steel Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main in Cato Manor, Durban, on Wednesday.

The break in the pipeline has left several areas without water supply.

The municipality stated that the affected main has been isolated to allow repairs to proceed, resulting in water supply interruptions to the Woodlands, Bluff, Lamontville and Mobeni reservoirs on Wednesday.

“As repairs continue, reservoir storage levels and water demand are being closely monitored. To preserve available storage and support system recovery once repairs are completed, water supply outlets may be temporarily shut. Depending on reservoir storage volumes, water may be supplied during peak demand periods,” the municipality stated.
