eThekwini Municipality's water directorate have completed repairs to a main water pipeline in Sea View on Friday. The pipeline was damaged on Monday.
The water supply to several suburbs in Durban’s south areas is expected to flow into pipes and taps by Friday afternoon.
The eThekwini Municipality stated that repairs on the Wiggins High Pressure main pipeline were completed on Friday. The pipeline broke in two places on Monday, cutting off water supply to Woodlands, Austerville, Clairwood, Mobeni, Montclair, Sea View, and Yellowwood Park. Also pipes ran dry on the Bluff, Bayhead, Lamontville, Chatsworth, Glenwood and Cato Manor.
“The technical team from water operations has completed all repairs on the 750mm diameter steel supply main following an extensive repair operation. The team worked throughout the night to complete the repairs and address the leaks identified during the repair process,” the municipality stated.
"Water flow to the affected reservoirs will reopen from midday on Friday, 7 August, to allow the epoxy applied to the repaired sections of the pipeline to set properly." the municipality stated.
