Cape Town residents urged to conserve water during essential maintenance

Cape Town residents are urged to reduce water use from Wednesday, August 12 to August 24, due to mandatory inspection and maintenance by the National Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

This essential maintenance on the nationally managed Theewaterskloof Dam to Riviersonderend (RSE) Berg River Tunnel is conducted every five years. It is vital to ensure the long-term reliability of the system.

Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation said: “While this important work is under way, we know that resources will be in short supply. Every litre saved will help ensure that there is sufficient water for everyone.”

“The City does not anticipate any water supply disruption during the upcoming DWS maintenance work, although residents will need to reduce water use,” he added.
