Hiker rescued after terrifying night lost on KZN mountain trail.
Against freezing temperatures and treacherous snow-covered terrain, a determined rescue team refused to give up until a missing hiker was brought to safety from the slopes near Rhino Peak in the Garden Castle Nature Reserve, KwaZulu-Natal.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has expressed immense relief after the hiker, who became lost on a trail on Monday night, was successfully rescued alive on Tuesday following an operation carried out in extremely challenging weather conditions.
The rescue unfolded as conservation officials, volunteers and specialist mountain rescuers battled the elements in an effort to locate the stranded hiker before conditions deteriorated further.
Snow and freezing temperatures added to the complexity of the search, making every hour critical.
