On Saturday afternoon, Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) teams responded to a 55-year-old rock climber who got injured while descending Lion's Head after completing the classic Clifton Crest climbing route.
The hard work was supposed to be over when a 55-year-old rock climber and his partner had just conquered the classic Clifton Crest route on Lion’s Head, but as they began navigating the uneven trail back down on Saturday afternoon, a single misplaced step turned a triumphant afternoon into a rescue operation.
A momentary misstep changed everything. Moving over uneven ground, the climber tripped, fell awkwardly, and dislocated his shoulder.
Recognising that they could no longer proceed safely, his climbing partner immediately dialled the emergency services, triggering a swift, multi-agency response from Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR).
At the scene, rescuers treated the injured man before carefully manoeuvring him down a steep, rocky scramble. From there, he was guided along the remainder of the trail.
