Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) teams battled extreme winter conditions on Monday night to pull three stranded mountain users to safety during two simultaneous, highly technical operations on Table Mountain.

Thick mist, driving rain, and freezing winds reduced visibility to near-zero, forcing rescue crews to navigate treacherous cliff faces in almost total darkness.

"The mountain was cold, wet, and unforgiving, with visibility so poor that rescuers could barely make out the trail in front of them," said David Nel, spokesperson for WSAR.

The weather conditions were so bad that rescuers had to double up on safety guidelines to protect themselves.
