The office of the Mayor of London has told the High Court that it had not choice but to block the Metropolitan Police from concluding a £50 million deal with US software firm Palantir, which is suing over the decision.
The decision in May was the only one the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (Mopac) could “lawfully and/or realistically reach”, a lawyer for Mopac told the court.
Joseph Barrett KC said in a written defence that the decision “was not taken on the basis of Palantir’s ‘values and ethics’”, as Palantir claims.
