US technology firm Palantir said its lawsuit against the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was motivated by suspicion that its £50 million contract with the Metropolitan Police was blocked over “values”.

In late May, the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) barred the deal, saying Palantir had not adequately ensured or demonstrated that it would provide value for money, MOPAC said.

MOPAC said Palantir was the only company the Met Police had seriously considered for the contract, in violation of procurement standards.

‘Unlawful’

MOPAC’s assessment also cited concerns around Palantir’s values and ethics, although legally, these cannot influence the decision to bar a contract.
