The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said the force may need to cut services, after the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, blocked a £50 million contract with Palantir that the Met had been counting on to help cut costs.

The comments by Sir Mark Rowley due to be presented at the London Policing Board on Thursday come after the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) in late May intervened to block the contract, saying Palantir appeared to have been the only firm that had been considered.

Palantir, known for carrying out work for the US military and for expressing support for disturbing political views, had not adequately ensured or demonstrated that it would provide value for money, MOPAC said.

Legal challenge

Palantir has informed MOPAC that it intends to challenge the decision in court, the Times reported on Monday.
