Authorities at Athens international airport have arrested a man wanted in Denmark over a foiled axe and knife attack last year, police said Monday.

A police statement said the 24-year-old man was taken into custody late Friday in the arrivals section shortly after he landed on a flight from the United Arab Emirates.

He faces charges of attempted grievous bodily harm and weapons law offenses in Denmark over the March 2025 attempted attack in a Danish town.

Police said he had tried to hurt two people who successfully held him off. The man also had a firearm on him at the time of the incident, the statement said. It provided no details on the suspect’s alleged motive.
