Authorities have announced rent support subsidies of up to €500 a month for people whose homes have been deemed unsuitable for habitation following recent wildfires across Greece.
The Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry said the support program for temporary housing would last up to two years for owners of primary residences that were declared temporarily unusable or dangerous.
Tenants will receive support for up to six months, to cover their moving in with family or friends but not to rent a new property.
The program will cover people who don’t own another home within a 25-kilometer range of the damaged buildings, and who want to move elsewhere within the same or a neighboring administrative region.
People who rent another home will receive a basic package of €300 a month for a one-person household, with an additional €50 for every additional household member up to a maximum €500.
