Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday pledged state support for people whose homes were destroyed or damaged by destructive summer wildfires sweeping through much of the country.
In a social media post, Mitsotakis said that the country is facing "extremely difficult days, with extreme weather conditions" and gale-force winds.
"We have to be honest with each other," he added.
"In recent years we have invested more than ever before in strengthening civil protection ...
But there are times when nature and the force of the weather conditions outstrip any human planning and operational ability."
