Aiming to tackle Cyprus’ long-standing shortage of nursing staff, Nicosia has approved a new annual grant for undergraduate nursing and midwifery students who are permanent residents of the island studying at recognized universities in Cyprus, offering them €5,750 over their four-year course.
Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides described the decision as an important step toward addressing what he called one of the most pressing issues facing the country’s healthcare system.
Starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, eligible students will receive financial support throughout their studies, with the grant increasing each year, from €1,000 in the first year to €2,000 in the final year.
Graduates will be required to work for at least two years in healthcare institutions in Cyprus after completing their studies.
