The film collected $355 million in North American theaters in its debut, according to studio estimates from Rentrak released Sunday, Aug. 2.Not adjusting for inflation, that's the second-largest domestic opening weekend for any movie in history, coming in just $2 million behind the record holder: "Avengers: Endgame," which debuted with $357 million in North America in 2019. The numbers are so close, it's possible "Spider-Man" could still claim the biggest opening ever title when final numbers come in on Monday.Prior to "Brand New Day," the No. 2 biggest domestic opener was the previous "Spider-Man" movie, 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which had a $260 million debut. But that film was propelled by the return of previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, whose rumored involvement in "No Way Home" generated months of hype leading up to the movie's release. Neither of them were back for "Brand New Day," making it even more impressive that a more standard sequel was able to blow it out of the water.Worldwide, "Brand New Day" opened with $927 million, the second-biggest global debut ever.
