Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have a new box office champion. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially recorded the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time, earning $360.1 million across the United States and Canada and overtaking Avengers: Endgame, which held the previous record with $357.1 million since 2019.The record-breaking debut caps off a remarkable opening for the fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film. After already setting a new all-time opening day record with $168 million, including previews, the film continued its momentum throughout the weekend to rewrite one of the industry’s most coveted box office milestones.Globally, Brand New Day amassed an extraordinary $932 million in its opening weekend, making it the second-largest worldwide debut in cinema history, behind only Avengers: Endgame. International markets contributed $572 million, with particularly strong performances from China, Europe and Latin America, reaffirming Spider-Man’s status as one of Hollywood’s biggest global brands. In India, Brand New Day has become the biggest Hollywood release in history, grossing an estimated ₹306 crore during its extended opening weekend. The film shattered the previous benchmark set by Avengers: Endgame and has already raced past ₹340 crore gross within five days of release, putting it firmly on course to become the highest-grossing Hollywood title ever in the country.Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film marks Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The story follows a world that has forgotten Peter’s identity after Doctor Strange’s spell, forcing him to navigate life entirely on his own while confronting a new wave of threats. The cast also includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Sadie Sink. The historic opening also powered North American theatres to their biggest overall weekend in history, aided by the continued success of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Together, the two blockbusters generated one of the strongest weekends the theatrical business has ever seen, offering another major boost to the global box office recovery. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day already approaching the $1 billion mark worldwide after just one weekend, attention has now turned to how high the Marvel blockbuster can climb and whether it can challenge the highest-grossing films ever released.
