Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam inaugurated Census 2026 in four zones in Salem on Saturday.

Salem Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam inaugurated the Census exercise at Linemedu in Ward 46 in the Kondalampatti zone on Saturday.The Commissioner said that between July 17 and 31, online self-enumeration took place through www.se.census.gov.in website on house listing. The census work began on August 1 and will continue till August 30.In Salem Corporation, there are 2.34 lakh houses and 10.05 lakh people. For the first time, the census was conducted digitally. As many as 1,237 enumerators and 207 supervisors are deployed. The public should provide the required details to the officials coming to their houses for the census, the Commissioner added.The Commissioner also said that as per Solid Waste Management rules 2026, the public should segregate the waste into four categories and give it to the Corporation workers. But many do not segregate waste and they are dumping it in drains or burning it on the roadside. Such violators will be fined. For residents, the fine will be ₹50 and for traders, it is ₹500.
