The first day of training for officials involved in Census 2027 operations in Salem district began at the Collectorate here on May 26, 2026 (Tuesday).The programme, chaired by Corporation Commissioner Lalith Adithya Neelam, saw officials from various departments trained on procedures related to the conduct of the Census in the district. The training sessions are being held on May 26, 27 and 29. Officials from the Census Office in Chennai are conducting the programme.The Census will be carried out in digital mode for the first time. In the first phase, house-listing and housing census activities will be undertaken, while the second phase involving population enumeration will commence in February 2027.Among those who participated in the training programme were District Revenue Officer R. Ravikumar; V.K. Suba, Joint Director, Census Directorate, Chennai; Shalini, Personal Assistant (General) to the Collector; census nodal officers, Revenue Divisional Officers, municipal commissioners, tahsildars, block development officers, executive officers of town panchayats and officials from various departments.
