HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, confirmed on Thursday, July 30, that a protester sentenced to death in connection with the January demonstrations suffered a heart attack shortly before his scheduled execution two days earlier.
According to the report, death-row prisoner Alireza Sepahi suffered a heart attack and was temporarily hospitalized before being transferred back to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.
Iranian state media reported on Tuesday, July 28, that Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi had been executed in connection with protests in the Malekshahr district of Isfahan.
Alireza Sepahi was scheduled to be executed alongside the two men, but his execution was postponed due to the medical emergency.
HRANA reported that he “suffered a heart attack right before being transferred to the execution site, after which prison guards moved him to a hospital.” The incident has heightened his family’s anxiety regarding his health and immediate fate.
