Corporate results were as of Wednesday the focus on investor attention at Athinon Avenue, though it was not banks that stole the show, for a change, in this session: Refineries benefitted from the fresh rise of the global oil rates to enjoy handsome gains on the day, whereas banks had a mixed session on the day Piraeus announced an increase in its profits over the year’s first half.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,540.06 points, adding 0.75% to Tuesday’s 2,521.18 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.72% to end at 6,469.73 points.

The banks index obtained 0.32%, with National grabbing 1.21%, Alpha securing 0.31%, Piraeus earning 0.25% and Eurobank advancing 0.18%, while Bank of Cyprus parted with 1.47% and Optima dropped 1.35%. Motor Oil climbed 4.58% to an all-time high, and Helleniq Petroleum rose 2.89% to highs unseen since 2015.

In total, 61 stocks collected gains, 48 showed losses and 15 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to €361.5 million, down from Tuesday’s €367.4 million.
