The positive corporate results and the favorable rates decision by central banks gave the Greek stock market one more push on Thursday to take the benchmark to levels not seen since November 2009. This new 200-month record came after five consecutive sessions of growth for the main index as well as the banks index, with July set to offer considerable gains come the end of Friday’s session at Athinon Avenue, while trading volume persistently remains at springtime levels.
The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,571.90 points, adding 1.25% to Wednesday’s 2,540.06 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 1.40%, ending at 6,560.39 points.
The banks index advanced 1.78%, as CrediaBank jumped 4.43%, Bank of Cyprus rose 2.89%, Optima collected 2.44%, Alpha grabbed 2.20%, National grew 2.02%, Eurobank climbed 1.41% and Piraeus obtained 0.88%.
In total, 73 stocks reported gains, 34 sustained losses and 16 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to €336.1 million, down from Wednesday’s €361.5 million.
