The main index of the Greek bourse mounted on Monday the psychologically important level of 2,500 points for the first time since November 2009, as it gained another percentage point after last week’s advance to historic highs. The diversification of investment interest and of targeted purchases served to increase optimism, although the mid-caps index suffered losses. This was done with the lowest daily turnover of the last month.
The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,501.13 points, adding 1.02% to Friday’s 2,475.98 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 1.09%, ending at 6,358.73 points, though mid-caps contracted 0.61%.
The banks index advanced 1.33%, as Optima grabbed 2.31%, Eurobank earned 2.15%, Piraeus collected 1.28%, National augmented 1.26% and Alpha climbed 1.12%. ElvalHalcor soared 7.72% and Viohalco grew 4.30%.
In total, 68 stocks secured gains, 42 endured losses and 14 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to €214.8 million, down from last Friday’s €454.2 million.
