The new cease fire in the Persian Gulf that led to a drop in oil rates, and the credit expansion recorded in the local banking sector last month (by €3.5 billion) led the banks index at ATHEX to highs unseen since late 2015 and the benchmark back above the 2,500-point mark, on the back of the growth recorded on Friday. This new week, of central bank rate decisions and of Greek lender financial results, is likely going to take the market index even higher.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,517.84 points, adding 1.01% to Friday’s 2,492.71 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 1.13% to end at 6,412.43 points.

The banks index rose 2.01%, as Alpha grew 3.83%, Optima advanced 3.14%, CrediaBank obtained 2.45%, National grabbed 2.17%, Piraeus collected 2.15%, Bank of Cyprus augmented 0.88% and Eurobank improved 0.73%.

In total, 79 stocks secured gains, 28 endured losses and 13 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to €312.7 million, up from last Friday’s €260.1 million.
