A 27-year-old man from Bommanahalli village in Ilvala hobli of Mysuru taluk has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman with whom he was in a relationship.According to an official statement, the accused, Kiran Kumar, and the deceased, Preethu Kumari, were relatives and had been in a relationship. Although Preethu Kumari had married a man named Swamy about nine years earlier, she later left her husband and began living with Kiran Kumar in a rented house at Belavadi along with her three children.The statement said the accused subsequently developed suspicions about her character and subjected her to physical and mental harassment. When Preethu Kumari informed him that she intended to leave him, he allegedly decided to kill her and kept a machete in the kitchen.On April 15, 2021, Kiran Kumar allegedly attacked Preethu Kumari with the machete, inflicting multiple grievous injuries. She was admitted to Brindavan Hospital but succumbed to her injuries despite treatment.Following the investigation, the Vijayanagar Police filed a chargesheet against the accused under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.The Second Additional District and Sessions Court, Mysuru, after examining the evidence presented by the prosecution, held that the charge of murder had been proved. Judge Mohan Basappa Badagandi convicted the accused under Section 302 IPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of ₹10,000.The prosecution was represented by B.M.
