The State closed its case in the murder trial of Duncan Hoorn with compelling evidence from one of Groote Schuur Hospital's most senior neurosurgeons, who told the court that, based on three decades of treating trauma patients, Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn's injuries were "definitely" consistent with an assault.
Associate Professor Allan Taylor, head of Clinical Neurosurgery at Groote Schuur Hospital, was the State's final witness in the Western Cape High Court trial against Hoorn who stands accused of kidnapping and murdering his wife and defeating the administration of justice. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Taylor, who has worked in medicine since 1988 and has specialised in neurosurgery since 1994, explained that his duties include overseeing every patient admitted under the neurosurgery unit, supervising surgical procedures and managing patients throughout their recovery.
