Duncan Hoorn appeared in the Western Cape High Court for the murder of his wife Chantal Pasqualle-Hoorn.
Slain Chantal Pasqualle-Hoorn suffered critical brain trauma that impaired her ability to breathe, ultimately leading to her death. The State alleges that her husband, Duncan Hoorn, is responsible for her injuries and is currently on trial for her murder.
After a brief adjournment in the Western Cape High Court, which is sitting in the Wynberg Regional Court, Hoorn's defence team directed their questioning towards the State's forensic pathologist, challenging the severity of Pasqualle-Hoorn's injuries and their connection to her death.
Dr Jill Roman, a specialist forensic pathologist with more than 17 years' experience, spent much of the morning detailing the extensive injuries she documented during Pasqualle-Hoorn's post-mortem examination.
During cross-examination, defence advocate Gilbert Jose focused on the nature of the injuries, repeatedly questioning Roman on whether many of them amounted to soft tissue injuries rather than fatal wounds.
