Advocate Nicolette Bell, the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions (DNDPP) and former National Prosecuting Authority's Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, has emerged as the person most likely to head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC). and replace Advocate Andrea Johnson, who vacated the position this week.
Sources said Bell was likely to accept the position if it were offered to her.
Johnson wrote a formal letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Andy Mothibi on Sunday, and requested to vacate her office immediately and have her three-month notice period waived.
She stated that she faced severe, relentless attacks over the past five months linked to IDAC’s investigations into the SAPS Crime Intelligence officials, adding that leaving the office immediately would “serve the institution and the country best”.
