Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson has asked to be released from office.

Johnson requested in a letter to National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi, which was also copied to President Cyril Ramaphosa. She requested to be released within 24 hours and waived the three-month notice period stipulated in her contract.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed the letter had been received.

"The NDPP has received the letter and he is processing it," Kganyago told IOL.

Johnson's request follows her appearance before the Madlanga Commission this week.
