Hours after the execution of Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi, two protesters involved in Isfahan’s so-called “Alikhani Square” case, a group of trade unionists and civil activists gathered outside the Rasht Prisons Administration, issuing a stark warning about the imminent risk of execution facing inmates held in Rasht’s Lakan Prison.
Pointing to the public execution of the two protesters in Isfahan, those present at the gathering emphasized that prisoners sentenced to death in Lakan Prison must not be allowed to suffer the same fate as those involved in the Alikhani Square case. Raising the slogan, “Let us rise before it is too late,” the activists demanded an immediate halt to executions and urged the public to pay attention to the plight of death row inmates.
The protest took place following earlier reports highlighting the threat of execution facing several political prisoners in Lakan Prison. According to human rights reports, several inmates at the facility are facing death sentences, including Manouchehr Fallah, Peyman Farah-Avar, Karim Khojasteh, Yaghoub Derakhshan, and Zahra Shahbaz-Tabari, all of whose names have appeared in reports concerning the prison’s death row.
