Concerns about the imminent execution of Alireza Sepahi and Abolfazl Sepahi have intensified following their transfer to solitary confinement at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.
The two prisoners were sentenced to death in connection with a case stemming from events at Isfahan’s Ali Khani Square.
According to the official narrative of the Islamic Republic, four members of law enforcement and the Basij were killed during clashes between protesters and government forces at Ali Khani Square. The judiciary claims that the defendants attacked security forces using firearms, bladed weapons, Molotov cocktails, and incendiary devices, before filming the incidents and sending the footage to foreign media outlets.
The human rights news agency HRANA reported that Alireza Sepahi, born in 2001, and Abolfazl Sepahi, born in 2003, were moved from the general ward to solitary confinement early on Saturday morning, July 18. Following the transfer, their families were granted a visit that they regarded as a final farewell. Fears over their fate have been further heightened by the recent execution of two co-defendants in the same case.
HRANA noted that Alireza and Abolfazl Sepahi, cousins who are also related by marriage, were arrested on January 10 during nationwide protests. While their death sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court, their families report having little clear information about the detailed charges, supporting evidence, or judicial proceedings.
