Crime Intelligence officer Dineo Mokwele’s legal team says the NPA’s provisional withdrawal of charges leaves her facing uncertainty and is considering seeking a permanent stay of prosecution in court.
The lawyer representing Crime Intelligence officer Brigadier Dineo Mokwele has rejected the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) provisional withdrawal of fraud and corruption charges against her, saying the defence is considering approaching the High Court for a permanent stay of prosecution.
Mokwele was among Crime Intelligence officials charged by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) in connection with allegations that her appointment to head Crime Intelligence’s Technical Support Services unit was irregular.
The matter later came under scrutiny during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission, where questions were raised about aspects of the investigation, including allegations made about Mokwele’s qualifications and suitability for the position.
The NPA on Monday provisionally withdrew the charges against Mokwele and other Crime Intelligence officials, saying further investigative steps were still required before a final decision could be made.
