Brigadier Dineo Mokwele says she can finally rebuild her life after criminal charges against her and six senior police officials were unconditionally withdrawn, bringing an end to what she described as a deeply traumatic ordeal and an alleged IDAC “witch-hunt”.
Mokwele, a Brigadier in Crime Intelligence, appeared briefly at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court alongside Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and fellow senior officers Major Generals Philani Lushaba, Nosipho Precious Madondo, Josias Lekalaka and Zwelithini Gabela, and Brigadier Phindile Ncube.
Following their arrests in June 2025, their appearance on Friday formally marked the withdrawal of the charges.
Criminal charges against crime intelligence officers including the head, Dumisani Khumalo, Major-Generals Philani Lushaba, Nosipho Precious Madondo, Josias Lekalaka and Zwelithini Gabela, as well as Brigadiers Phindile Ncube and Dineo Mokwele were dropped by National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
