Crime Intelligence (CI) head Lt-General Dumisani Khumalo and CI’s Component Head of Intelligence Analysis and Co-ordination, Major General Nosipho Madondo have previously demanded answers on the failed attempt to arrest them.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has withdrawn charges against Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, Major-General Nozipho Madondo and their co-accused, marking a dramatic development in a case that has drawn intense scrutiny over its handling.

The decision follows a directive from National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi and was made before any of the accused entered pleas.

According to the NPA, the matter cannot proceed at this stage because investigations were still ongoing and prosecutors do not yet have a complete evidentiary record on which to base the case.

In a significant safeguard for the accused, Mothibi has reportedly directed that the matter may not be re-enrolled without his written approval.
