Four people were injured after a public transport bus crashed through a guardrail and crossed into oncoming traffic on Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard in Sofia on Monday, temporarily blocking one of the capital's busiest roads.
The Route 204 bus, which was traveling from the Mladost district toward Orlov Most, broke through the central barrier near the Fourth Kilometer interchange. Concrete safety barriers prevented the vehicle from plunging off the overpass.
According to Bulgarian media reports, four people sustained minor injuries in the incident, including a 16-year-old girl, a woman, and two men. Two of the injured were transported to ISUL University Hospital, while the other two were taken to Pirogov Emergency Hospital. Doctors later confirmed that a 76-year-old man and the teenage girl treated at Pirogov were discharged after receiving medical care.
The crash blocked traffic toward Plovdiv and caused significant congestion as police and emergency crews responded to the scene and worked to remove the damaged bus.
Witnesses said the driver told them the bus had suffered a brake failure, leaving him unable to stop before crashing through the guardrail. Another eyewitness said the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a moderate speed, likely within the posted speed limit.
