Operations at Sofia’s “Vasil Levski” Airport were disrupted for around three hours on Monday morning after a service vehicle broke down on the runway, temporarily halting both takeoffs and landings.
According to information cited by BTA and observed by a Dir.bg reporter, a malfunctioning airport maintenance truck became immobilized on the runway, forcing a suspension of flight movements while crews worked to resolve the situation.
The incident led to significant delays and congestion inside the terminal, where passengers reported extended waiting times and several flights were affected.
Airport authorities confirmed that early departures were pushed back, including a flight to Catania in Sicily scheduled for 5:50 a.m., which eventually departed roughly two hours later after operations resumed.
Shortly before 8:00 a.m., the airport announced that normal activity had been restored and passengers were called to boarding for delayed flights.
