Zandile Gumede shifted her political allegiance to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) recently.

The ANC in eThekwini says it is not bothered by the acquisition of ‘politically dormant’ Zandile Gumede by Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP)

In its recent media briefing to outline its readiness for the upcoming local government elections, the party addressed the issue of Gumede for the first time since she was publicly paraded by the MKP two weeks ago.

Rumours are that Zuma would unilaterally pick her as the eThekwini mayoral candidate, which many consider a serious threat to ANC dominance.

However, the ANC eThekwini task team coordinator, Thanduxolo Sabelo, dismissed Gumede as a politically dormant individual who has been lying idle for seven years because the ANC placed her on step-aside in 2019.
