MK Party Awaits Zuma's Decision on Zandile Gumede as eThekwini Mayoral Candidate Speculation Intensifies

Zandile Gumede shifted her political allegiance to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) recently.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in KwaZulu-Natal says it is awaiting a decision from party leader, Jacob Zuma and Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo on whether Zandile Gumede will be their mayoral candidate for the eThekwini Municipality.

In an interview on Monday, the party provincial convener Willies Mchunu revealed that Zuma and Nomvalo will make a decision on the direction they would embark on in deciding on who became mayoral candidates.

“We are waiting for Zuma and Nomvalo to give us guidelines on how the mayoral candidates will be chosen. Once we receive that, we will be able to inform the public,” said Mchunu.

Gumede, who became the first woman to hold the eThekwini ANC's regional chairperson position in 2015, was formally introduced as a new member of the party at a media briefing in Durban, last week. She was also immediately appointed to the position of deputy to Mchunu.
