Former eThekwini mayor and ANC eThekwini chairperson has moved to the MK Party. She has been appointed as the party's deputy provincial convener in KZN.
Just a few months before the November local government polls, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has unveiled former Durban mayor Zandile Gumede as its new deputy provincial convener in KwaZulu-Natal.
Gumede, a former ANC leader in eThekwini, was formally introduced as a new member of the party in a media briefing in Durban on Monday afternoon. The former mayor is currently on trial for a R320 million solid waste tender corruption case.
Gumede thanked the MK Party for welcoming her. Visibly excited party leader Jacob Zuma also expressed his happiness for getting a ‘big fish’ such as Gumede. Zuma called on all black people to unite and finally take the country back from the white people and others.
“We are happy to welcome you comrades. Now you are home from kwagogo (a term currently used to refer to their former political party, the ANC),” said Zuma.
