Zuma and MKP SG to decide on Zandile Gumede's mayoral candidacy for eThekwini

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in KwaZulu-Natal says it is awaiting a decision from party leader, Jacob Zuma and Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo on whether Zandile Gumede will be the mayoral candidate for the Thekwini Municipality.

In an interview on Monday morning, the party provincial convener Willies Mchunu revealed that Zuma and Nomvalo will make a decision about the guidelines on who becomes a mayoral candidates.

“We are waiting for Zuma and Nomvalo to give us guidelines on how the mayoral candidates will be chosen. Once we receive that, we will be able to inform the public,” said Mchunu.

Gumede, who became the first woman to hold the eThekwini ANC regional chairperson position in 2015, was formally introduced as a new member of the party at a media briefing in Durban, last week. She was also immediately appointed to the position of deputy to Mchunu.
