Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede not only dumped the ANC but also switched her spiritual allegiance from Methodist Church to Nazareth Baptist Church

In its bid to wrestle control of eThekwini Municipality from the ANC-led coalition, uMkhonto weSizwe Party has beefed up its provincial leadership with former Mayor Zandile Gumede as a deputy provincial convener.

Gumede, who became the first woman eThekwini ANC regional chairperson in 2015, was formally introduced as a new member of the party in a media briefing in Durban on Monday afternoon. After the introduction, Gumede was immediately handed over her new position to deputise former ANC provincial deputy chairperson Willies Mchunu.

She did not say much except thanking the MKP for welcoming her. The visibly excited party leader Jacob Zuma also expressed his happiness for getting a ‘big fish’ such as Gumede. Zuma called on all black people to unite and finally take the country back from the white people and others according to Zuma.

“We are happy to welcome you comrades. Now you are home from kwagogo (a term currently used to refer to their former political party, the ANC),” said Zuma.
